Women Working for a Cure

Women Working for a Cure Relay for Life Team will be having their 6th Annual Spring Fashion Show & Luncheon on April 10th at the Crowne Plaza Resort 11:00 - 2:00 to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.  All models are cancer survivors and profits will support cancer research in our area.  Advance tickets for  the Fashion/Luncheon show are $25 and raffle tickets are $1 for various prizes.  Contact Kathi Worley 254-7825 or Marlene Frisbee 259-5967.

Relay for Life of Enka

The Relay For Life of Enka will be held on Friday, May 14th, at the Enka High School stadium. There will be food, live entertainment and over 40 festival booths as we help fight cancer in the Enka community!  Highlights include our annual 5-K Race for Hope, a hilarious version of 'Relay Idol', and a Disco Dance competition.  There will be inflatables for the kids and fun activities for the entire family.  Cancer survivors will be honored with a free dinner and a special lap around the track.  For more information on Enka's Relay For Life event, visit the website at www.RelayForLife.org/Enka

Public Service Announcement, Blessing of the Bikes Program to benefit Western Carolina Rescue Ministries.  Runs through March 19th, 2010.

Blessing of the Bikes will take place at 11am on Saturday, March 20th, at MR Motorcycle on Hendersonville Road in Asheville.  The program is open to all motorcycle riders…religious and non-religious alike.  The Blessing provides an opportunity for all motorcycle riders to have them and their bikes blessed for a safe riding season.  Donations of cash and personal hygiene items will be collected for donation to Western Carolina Rescue Ministries.  For more information call Mike Maki at 277-8600, extension 107., or email www.MR-Motorcycle.com

Two of Asheville’s Premiere Summertime musical events will be featured again in 2010.  SHINDIG ON THE GREEN will take place during most Saturday nights in July, August and the first weekend in September.  SHINDIG will take place on the new Bascom Lamar Lunsford stage at Pack Square Park downtown and will feature bluegrass and ballads, clogging and other forms of entertainment.  It’s free and open to the public.   The Mountain Dance and Folk Festival takes place at Diana Wortham Theatre Thursday-Saturday, August 5th through 7th.   Tickets are available at the Pack Place Box Office.  For more information…log on to www.folkheritage.org

If you are planning to help with the relief efforts in Haiti, please check with the Buncombe County Health Department before going.  There are specific vaccines and medications you should have to protect your health.   Call the Foreign Travel Clinic of the Buncombe County Health Department at 250-5096 and make and appointment.  Be aware it takes about two weeks to have full immunity from most preventable diseases in Haiti.  The Health Department can also help you determine the proper supplies you should take along with you.
