“So this guy walks into a bar with a poodle under his arm and. . .” If you know this joke from the "Breakfast Club" movie you probably remember Simple Minds more than Molly Ringwald. It was the music as much as the characters that made this movie iconic and it’s how I’ve seen the world for a long time. Music is the scrapbook where we house our memories. Hear a great song from some significant moment in your life and you can almost smell where you were at the time. New music makes me as excited as the old stuff and I credit my time as a DJ on public radio WNCW 88.7FM in Spindale, NC for introducing me to so many incredible, diverse and essential artists. More time spent on-air at The Penguin WUIN 106.7FM in Wilmington, NC grew my library for Triple A (the River’s format meaning Adult Album Alternative) and emerging, genre busting artists. I’ve been raising two beautiful children lately and sharing lots of music with them too. Finally The River makes me want to return to radio and share music that is different – and undeniably – good with everyone else.
